Candidates and the lead attorney for the Free National Movement gathered at the Parliamentary Registration Department on Monday to voice concerns about the release of the certified register.
Attorney Michael Scott told reporters, “some people, some constituencies, have received, the representative constituencies, have received different pieces of the register but nobody, as I understand it, has received the whole meaning the advanced poll register for the advanced poll which is to take place on Thursday, the external or overseas register and the complete register for the entire country.”
According Parliamentary Commissioner, Harrison Thompson the register was signed off in accordance with the law and made available early on Monday morning and copies were collected by representatives of the Progressive Liberal Party, the Free National Movement and the Coalition of Independents.
Thompson said, “today is the publishing day and we’re publishing the register. We have signed off the register as mandated by law and its being published today. They’re picking up their registers today. There is no delay. I could assure The Bahamas that the voting process, the integrity will be upheld. We are working seriously to make sure that all eligible Bahamians who are registered have the opportunity to vote and the integrity of the system should not be questioned.”
FNM Deputy Leader, Shanendon Cartwright expressed disappointment about the handling of the process while speaking with Commissioner Thompson. He said, “its deeply troubling not just for us as an organization but we represent the Bahamian people and they are deeply concerned about what they see happening.” Thompson responded saying, “everybody who came in early they got their register. They signed on it. We have the record there. And we know who got register from who didn’t get a register.”
Candidates have said that will continue to monitor the situation.
