Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis is in Trinidad and Tobago where he is attending the 45th Regular Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government meetings. Davis has served as Chairman of CARICOM for the past six months. He is being succeeded by the Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

Mr. Davis reflected on his time as chairman and spoke about his hopes for the organization. He said, “I’d like to see more progress in the Haiti situation. It’s a complexed issue that’s multifaceted that needs to be resolved. I’d like to see more progress in that regard. I’d like to see us advance our issues on food security as we’ve been promoting these last six months. I’d like to see further our efforts in climate financing and having the word architecture for financing for small island developing states like ours change through the Bridgetown Initiative.”

As to the highlights of his tenure as CARICOM Chairman, Mr. Davis said, “a highlight has been hosting of the conference in The Bahamas in February where we had a wonderful time, got a lot done and of course our interaction with the United States with Kamala Harris being in The Bahamas. And of course the meeting of the Haitian stakeholders in Jamaica to try to resolve their issues.”

The Prime Minister also expressed his confidence in the new CARICOM Chairman.
