Potcake Pride Takes Centre Stage at Heartwarming All Breed Dog Show

Bahamian Media News:

There was no shortage of wagging tails, proud owners, and joyful energy as the grounds of Stapledon School came alive for the 2026 Potcake Awards All Breed Dog Show and Obedience Trials.

Hosted by Pat’s Nature Garden, the event transformed the Dolphin Drive campus into a vibrant celebration of Bahamian dog culture — where pampered pups, spirited potcakes, and devoted families gathered for a day filled with fun, flair, and a whole lot of love.

From the moment the first dogs stepped onto the show area, it was clear this wasn’t just about competition — it was about connection.

Children cheered, handlers showcased months of training, and proud pet parents beamed as their furry companions strutted, performed tricks, and showed off their unique personalities. Whether dressed to impress or simply winning hearts with a wag of the tail, every dog had its moment to shine.

At the heart of it all was a powerful message: every dog matters.

Named after The Bahamas’ beloved potcake — known for its resilience, intelligence, and loyal spirit — the awards celebrate not just pedigree, but purpose. Organizers emphasized that the event is designed to promote responsible pet ownership while highlighting the beauty and brilliance of dogs of all breeds, including the nation’s cherished mixed-breed companions.

“This event is for every dog,” organizers shared. “It’s about celebrating the bond between people and their pets, while encouraging a culture of care and compassion across our communities.”

And the community showed up.

Support poured in from every corner — from sponsors and donors to volunteers and partners — all coming together to make the event a resounding success. Stapledon School provided the perfect venue, while partners, vendors, and a dedicated planning team ensured the day ran smoothly and memorably.

Of course, the stars of the show did not disappoint.

Top honours went to Shiloh and Anita “Delta” Moncur, who captured Best Potcake, while Kahlua and Viviane Proffitt claimed the coveted Best in Show title. Ravioli and Parker McCarthy impressed judges to secure Best in Obedience, and Rolf and Donna Kiriaze delighted the crowd with a winning performance for Best Trick.

Style and charm were also on full display, with Bali and Deborah Nubirth taking Best Dressed, and Milo and family winning hearts as Cutest Dog. Veteran standout Watson David Lowe, alongside Valarie Lowe, was honoured in the Veterans category, while Aureus and Markita Collie wagged their way to victory with Waggiest Tail.

Behind the scenes, judges Barbara Stubbs and Empress Mills brought expertise and care to the process, ensuring each participant was recognized for their strengths.

But beyond the ribbons and recognition, it was the spirit of the day that truly stood out — a reminder of the simple, powerful joy that comes from the bond between humans and their four-legged companions.

With plans already underway for an even bigger and better event next year, one thing is clear: the Potcake Awards is more than a dog show — it’s a celebration of love, loyalty, and community.

And in The Bahamas, that’s something worth barking about.
