Twenty-four (24) Haitian nationals appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville in Magistrate’s Court No. 4 on Tuesday, May 26, in connection with immigration offences. Of the twenty-four individuals, twenty-two (22) were convicted of Overstaying, while two (2) were convicted of Illegal Landing.
The Court imposed fines ranging from $300.00 to $3,000.00, in addition to custodial sentences ranging from one to three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. All individuals were further ordered to be transferred to the custody of the Department of Immigration for deportation upon payment of fines or completion of their custodial sentences.
Additionally, between May 16 and May 26, 2026, the Deportation and Removal Units executed a series of deportation orders resulting in the removal of fifty-six (56) foreign nationals from The Bahamas. Those removed comprised:
47 Haitian nationals — 27 males, 20 females
4 Ecuadorian nationals — 4 males
3 Dominican nationals — 3 males
1 Jamaican national — 1 male
1 Venezuelan national — 1 male
1 Colombian national — 1 female
The removals were carried out in accordance with established health and safety protocols for
both officers and deportees.
The Department of Immigration reminds all visitors and permit holders that remaining in The Bahamas beyond the authorized period constitutes an offence under the Immigration Act and may result in arrest, prosecution, detention, and deportation.
