Press Release
For entrepreneur Jermaine Bannister, building a successful aviation services company required more than determination and hard work. It required the right partnerships, sound financial guidance and a long-term vision for growth.
Today, Omega Aviation provides ground handling and security services to both international and domestic airlines operating in The Bahamas. The company has grown steadily over the years, establishing itself as a trusted partner within the aviation industry. Bannister credits part of that success to the support he received from Scotiabank Bahamas during the company’s early stages of growth.
“My relationship with Scotiabank has been a very unique one,” said Bannister. “They’ve been very supportive, very ethical and their team has been tremendous in helping us achieve our goals and meet our objectives. We’ve been doing business together for a number of years and it’s been a tremendous experience.”
Like many small business owners, Bannister faced the challenge of securing the financial resources needed to establish and grow his business. Access to financing became an important step in helping Omega Aviation move from concept to operation.
“Scotiabank was able to help us with a line of credit which helped establish us,” he explained. “We worked through that, paid it off fully and now operate based on our income. We were also able to build reserves that help us prepare for unexpected situations, such as what we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
For Bannister, however, the value of the relationship extended beyond financing. “It was extremely important to have a good banking relationship because banks help businesses grow,” he said. “They provide advice and guidance that you may not know for yourself.”
One person who played a particularly important role in Omega Aviation’s growth was Craig Pratt, Business Relationship Manager at Scotiabank Bahamas. “Mr. Pratt was very instrumental in helping us,” Bannister said. “He gave me honest advice, even when I didn’t necessarily want to hear it at the time. Looking back, I appreciate that honesty because it helped me sustain, grow and plan strategically for the future of the business.”
For Pratt, supporting entrepreneurs like Bannister is one of the most rewarding aspects of working with small business clients. “The biggest opportunity we have is getting to know our clients’ businesses and watching them grow,” said Pratt. “Every company starts somewhere. We have the opportunity to understand how they operate, how they evolve and what comes next. Being part of that journey and helping businesses move to the next level is incredibly rewarding.”
Pratt believes small businesses remain one of the most important drivers of economic growth in The Bahamas. “Small businesses create jobs, opportunities and investment throughout the country,” he said. “They represent a significant part of our economy and contribute to the growth and development of communities across The Bahamas.”
As Omega Aviation continues to grow, Bannister encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to stay focused on their goals, remain adaptable and seek out trusted partners like Scotiabank, who can help guide them through the challenges of building a business. His experience is a testament to the value of perseverance, strategic planning and strong partnerships in building a sustainable business.
Today, Scotiabank Bahamas serves more than 5,000 small businesses across The Bahamas, helping entrepreneurs access the tools, guidance and support needed to achieve their goals and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
