The enduring strength of marriage and family took centre stage Sunday as couples from across The Bahamas renewed their wedding vows during the National Family Week Marriage Recommitment Service at Bahamas Harvest Church.
The moving ceremony celebrated love, faith and lifelong commitment, highlighting the important role strong marriages play in building resilient families, stronger communities and a more compassionate nation.
Speaking from the perspective of both a husband and father, Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Services, the Hon. Bacchus Rolle encouraged couples to continue investing in their marriages, reminding them that healthy families are built on love, faith, respect, forgiveness and commitment.
Delivering the Couples’ Charge, Pastor Mario Moxey challenged husbands and wives to remain intentional in nurturing their marriages each day. He encouraged couples to continue choosing one another through every season of life while keeping God at the centre of their union. Pastor Moxey and his wife, Pastor Erica Moxey, also renewed their own marriage vows during the service, joining the other couples in reaffirming their lifelong commitment.
The service, which included worship, prayer and the reaffirmation of marriage vows, was organized by the Department of Gender and Family Affairs under the leadership of Director Sharmie Farrington and was hailed as a meaningful celebration of marriage and family during National Family Week.
National Family Week activities continued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, when representatives from the Department of Gender and Family Affairs visited senior citizens receiving care through the Ministry of Social Services, delivering care packages and spending time with residents as part of the week’s focus on strengthening family and community connections.
The observance continues on Thursday, July 30, with the Single and Divorced Forum beginning at 12 noon in the Hearing Room at the Ministry of Social Services Headquarters on JFK Drive. The week’s celebrations conclude on Saturday, August 1, with the Family and Community Fun Day at R.M. Bailey Park from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., bringing families together for a day of entertainment, fellowship and community engagement.
The Department of Gender and Family Affairs encourages all Bahamians to participate in the remaining National Family Week activities as it continues promoting healthy relationships, stronger families and a more caring Bahamas.
