Press Release
Minister of Energy, Utilities and Aviation, The Hon. JoBeth Coleby Davis, joined regional leaders as a featured speaker at the 10th Annual Caribbean InfrastructureForum (CARIF) 2026, held September 15–16 in Miami, Florida.
During her address, Minister Coleby-Davis highlighted The Bahamas’ ongoing transformation of its energy, utilities and aviation sectors and the investment opportunities being created through the Government’s resilience agenda.
“The Bahamas Government has developed a comprehensive strategy to build infrastructure that is more reliable, diversified and resilient, while reducing The Bahamas’ exposure to imported fuel prices, climate-related events and external economic shocks,” said Minister Coleby-Davis.
The Minister further highlighted significant progress in the transformation of the electricity sector, including investments in solar energy, battery storage, natural gas, hybrid microgrids and grid modernisation. Across the Family Islands, hybrid energy systems are being developed to combine renewable energy with reliable generation and storage. In Abaco, a facility comprising approximately 13 MW of solar, 30 MW of LNG generation and 15 MWh of battery storage is under construction, with the solar component expected to begin supplying the grid in November 2026.
On New Providence, the Minister pointed to a programme comprising approximately 70 MW of solar and 35 MW of battery storage, alongside major grid-modernisation initiatives. The Government has reported approximately $40 million in fuel savings in 2024, with projected annual savings of approximately $125.6 million by the end of 2026.
The Minister also highlighted investments in water security and aviation connectivity, including the Family Island Airport Renaissance, which targeted more than 19 airport projects across The Bahamas, with four aerodrome works completed since the Renaissance launch in 2022 and 15 active projects in the current airport infrastructure pipeline.
Private-sector participation was another key theme of the Minister’s presentation.
The Government is using Power Purchase Agreements, Independent Power Producer structures and public-private partnerships to attract capital, technology and expertise into renewable energy, storage, grid services, aviation and other critical infrastructure projects.
The Minister also called for greater use of blended finance and multilateral support to prepare, aggregate and de-risk projects, enabling private capital to participate at scale.
“The Bahamas is not waiting for resilience to become an investment opportunity. We are building the investment opportunity around resilience now,” said Minister Coleby-Davis.
The Minister identified energy; aviation and connectivity; and integrated island infrastructure as key areas of opportunity, emphasising the Government’s vision of interconnected infrastructure that supports homes, businesses, tourism, industry and investment.
The Minister’s participation at CARIF 2026 underscored the Government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with investors and development partners and positioning The Bahamas to attract investment that delivers long-term economic value, resilience and growth for the Bahamian people.
