The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) has announced the appointment of Immediate Past President, Robert “Sandy” Sands as Interim President, as Jackson Weech, who was elected President of the organization in December 2024, relinquished the leadership position following his appointment as Director General of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.
Sands, who is very familiar with the role and responsibilities given he served as President of the BHTA for 5 terms or 10 years, dating back to 1990 stated: “First and foremost, we are very proud of Jackson Weech, he served and led our organization with competence, consideration, resolution, and a keen awareness of the potential that resides in the people he worked amongst. We look forward to working with him collaboratively in his new capacity.”
Sands went on to state; “As expressed, we see Jackson Weech’s appointment as an astute decision made by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. We believe it will further strengthen our working relationship with BMOT as we aim to achieve common goals and best enable the growth, development, and prosperity of our tourism industry.
Sands will hold office as Interim President until BHTA’s Annual General Meeting on December 2nd 2026, when Elections of it’s Officers and Directors will take place.
