Exuma 50th Independence Celebrations

Bahamian Media News:

Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Exuma and Ragged Island, the Hon. Chester Cooper traveled to his constituency to celebrate the 50th anniversary of independence there.

The festivities, held at Regatta Park, included performances by local choirs, dancers and singers. A band consisting of representatives of the Royal Bahamas Police and Defence Forces and the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services also performed.

Cooper addressed the crowd saying, “the first fifty was about the foundation. The next fifty is going to be building super structures all across our country. And tonight, I want to say that we promised that Exuma and the rest of the family islands will not be left out.”

The evening ended with a flag raising at midnight, fireworks and a junkanoo parade.
