Haitians Repatriated

The Department of Immigration conducted a repatriation exercise on Monday for Haitian nationals. Two flights were arranged bound for Haiti, one scheduled to leave at 7am and the other at 12 noon.

Assistant Director of Immigration Rudolph Ferguson was at the airport during the boarding process and spoke to members of the media. He said, “the Bahamas is for Bahamians strictly and those we invite to come here legally.”

Ferguson further explained, “we have 143 migrants on this particular first flight this morning, 62 males, 60 females, 12 male children and 9 female children.”

Shortly after leaving the terminal, one of the female migrants onboard the plane experienced medical complications. The plane returned to the terminal where the female received medical attention, however she passed away around 9am Monday morning.
