LJM Maritime Academy Graduation Ceremony

Bahamian Media News:

The LJM Maritime Academy held a graduation ceremony for fifty four students on Saturday under the theme ‘Navigating New Horizons, The Voyage To Success’.

Valedictorian Ricardo Rahming addressed the gathering saying, “we endured lockdowns, remote learning, virtual stimulation, restriction to practical training, most of us have even missed out on the camaraderie being together in the classroom. Yet, we remain undeterred demonstrating our dedication to our calling as seafarers.”

Keynote speaker at the graduation was Carnival Cruise Lines Chief Marine Officer Captain Domenico Rognoni. He told the graduates, “in our career we will be face with things that we don’t like, challenges that would generate frustration and unhappiness, do not give up. When you face issues, problems, difficulties, there are always solutions.”

Also on hand was founder of the LJM Maritime Academy Lowell J. Mortimer who spoke of the vision for the establishment of the institution. “The vision of this academy came about because I thought that if we’re putting billions in other country why can’t we do it for The Bahamas and educate Bahamians at a cheaper rate but with a quality education,” he said.

In her presentation School President Brendamae Cleare revealed that some students had achieved their bachelor’s degree since completing their studies at LJM Maritime Academy.

The LJM Maritime Academy was established in 2014.
