Public Service Assessment Exercise

Public Service Assessment Exercise

Bahamian Media News:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service is conducting a three week assessment exercise for assistant secretaries within the public service.

Minister of State for the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle was in attendance at the opening of the training program. She told reporters, “this three weeks will be one of training, one of testing or assessment for these mid level managers in the public service. It very important because we need to build capacity. We have attrition that’s going on a regular basis whether it through retirement or person’s simply leaving the public service for other opportunities. So this isn’t a method to build our capacity but to ensure that in doing so that there the persons or the participants are equipped, tested and ready for the roles.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, the Hon. Fred Mitchell was also at the event. He told participants, “it was a mistake to have a moratorium on hiring no matter how tough the economic situation is. Every year the public service should get from the graduating class persons to come into the public service and be trained. It’s the only way to keep up with how the country is progressing. So you may reduce the numbers but you need to recruit every year so that you get from each cohort a sample across the country.”
