Tropical storm conditions are expected in the northern Bahamas as Hurricane Milton leaves the United States on Wednesday and Thursday.
Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco, the Hon. John Pinder gave an update on weather conditions on the island on Tuesday. He told ZNS News, “we are watching Hurricane Milton as he approaches and also the low pressure disturbance that grew on top of us yesterday. We have had heavy rains and winds. It looks like we’re in bit a lull right now where it has calmed down but it looks like more weather is approaching. We do have minor flooding in the low lying areas where we are watching it and public works is on the road right now doing their assessments.”
According to the Member of Parliament the Disaster Risk Management Authority arranged charter flights with supplies and assistance for those who may still have hurricane damage to their homes. Pinder said, “informed us that he’ll be sending a charter plane in with some tarps and other things to assist us with houses that may still be leaking through the extensive rain that we’ve been having.”
In anticipation of the effects of the storm the Abaco Emergency Command Center is open. Hurricane shelters will also be activated once officials deem it necessary.
