Police officials held a press conference on Thursday to provide an update on investigations into the death of 12 year old Adriel Moxey. The lifeless body of the Anatol Rodger High School student was found in bushes off an unpaved road near Faith Avenue on Wednesday evening.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings informed members of the media that a 32 year old man was taken into custody in connection with the incident. She said, “he is a person of interest. And so our lines of investigation continue and as we continue to speak with this individual I will be able to update you accordingly. He was taken into custody before 10 o’ clock this morning in the Faith Gardens, Cowpen Road area.”
The Assistant Commissioner of Police for Information, Technology and Communications, Zhivargo Dames was also in attendance at the event. He was asked about the Marco’s Alert System and when alerts are issued. He said, “the child was missing, based on what we were told by the parents and the likes from Monday…but it was never reported to us until 10:30 on Tuesday. And so when it’s reported to us, as I’ve mentioned, the due diligence was followed. We went and do our due diligence ensuring, trying to find this young child. We got, as the Commissioner mentioned, the drone out, we got the dogs and things based on what the information was telling us. And so once we then got to a particular point we realized, we need now to disseminate that, we need the public’s help based on what we are seeing. And so it was determined to disseminate a Marco’s Alert.”
Dames also addressed reports of police being informed of screams in the area of where the child’s body was found but did not respond. “What I have heard and what was reported at the scene that there was a young man who was walking in the area and said that he heard screams, and if I remember correctly, shined a light. It was never said to us, to my knowledge, that that was reported to the police. But let me say here too, again, technology is in place. If such a call was made to the police we have the technology in place to go back and to listen and to say if a call was made especially if that call was made on 919. If such a call was made to the police of a young child screaming in a particular area I would dare say that our officers would react quickly to try to investigate and see what’s happening in that particular area.
