The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources today officially announced Agri-Expo 2026, a national showcase of Bahamian agriculture under the theme, “Agriculture: Our Heritage, Our Future.”
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 16th February held at the Ministry’s Headquarters at One Montague Place, the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell, described the upcoming event as more than an exhibition.
“Agri-Expo 2026 is a national gathering that celebrates where we have come from, acknowledges where we are, and boldly points us toward where we must go,” Minister Campbell said.
The three-day event will take place April 10–12, 2026, at the Gladstone Road Agriculture Center and will bring together farmers, agro-processors, artisans, entrepreneurs, students, and families from across The Bahamas.
Showcasing the Best of Bahamian Agriculture
Agri-Expo 2026 will feature a dynamic mix of exhibitions, live demonstrations, educational lectures, and competitions, with scores of Bahamian food producers displaying locally grown and locally made products.
The event aims to:
Highlight food producers and artisans from throughout the islands
Strengthen connections between farmers, consumers, distributors, and investors
Expand economic opportunities within the agricultural sector
Promote innovation, sustainability, and food security
“Agriculture has always been a cornerstone of our development,” Minister Campbell noted, emphasizing the legacy of Bahamians who have long relied on the land and sea for sustenance, trade, and community.
Learning, Innovation and Practical Skills
Beyond the exhibits, attendees can expect a robust educational program featuring expert-led discussions and hands-on sessions focused on sustainability, innovation, food security, and climate resilience.
Workshops and demonstrations will include:
Yogurt manufacturing
Bottling tomatoes and sauces
Toffee candy making
Bread making
Pickling peppers
Farm-to-table experiences
These sessions are designed to provide participants with practical tools and knowledge they can apply directly to their farms, businesses, and communities.
Celebrating Culinary Creativity
A major highlight of the expo will be the return of the popular “Battle of the Islands” Cooking Competition, a vibrant culinary showdown celebrating Bahamian culture and cuisine. The competition will demonstrate how local ingredients can be transformed into dishes that reflect the unique identity of each island.
Additionally, a Junior Chefs Competition between high schools will take place on the opening day, encouraging youth participation and inspiring the next generation of agricultural and culinary leaders.
Families can also look forward to the return of the popular Kiddie Corner, complete with a petting zoo and interactive activities for children.
Strengthening Food Security
Agri-Expo 2026 forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to strengthen national food security and reduce dependence on imported goods. By supporting local production, encouraging innovation, and creating opportunities for young people, the Ministry continues to advance a more resilient and self-reliant Bahamas.
This year’s call to action is clear: #LetsGetGrowing.
“Let us grow more food right here at home. Let us grow stronger value chains across our islands. Let us grow new ideas, new partnerships, and new opportunities for Bahamians,” urged Minister Campbell.
The Ministry encourages all Bahamians to attend Agri-Expo 2026 at the Gladstone Road Agriculture Center from April 10–12 to learn, support local producers, and celebrate the strength and potential of Bahamian agriculture.
Together, under the banner of “Agriculture: Our Heritage, Our Future,” The Bahamas will continue planting the seeds today that will feed the nation tomorrow.
