The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources has announced that it is gearing up to host its annual Agri-Expo event.  The exhibition will be held April 4 – 6 at the Gladstone Road Agricultural Centre. The event is being held under the theme, ‘Food Security is Our Priority.’ 

Minister Jomo Campbell said the expo will celebrate and promote Bahamian agriculture via a showcase of farming techniques, food production and culinary competition.  “Agri-Expo will feature an exciting lineup of activities, including informative workshops on sweet potato production, food processing, backyard farming and hydroponic systems to name a few,” he said.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to witness live demonstrations on food, bread, jam and jelly making as well as participate in hands-on agricultural experiences.”

The event will feature food vendors and artisans, and youths will also play a role at Agri-Expo as 13 schools that participate in agricultural programs will display their produce.

Other highlights include a ‘Taste of the Islands’ event where farmers from throughout the country will display their best agricultural products. 

A friendly ‘Battle of the Islands’ event will also be held. This cooking competition will determine which island reigns supreme in the culinary arena.

“Agri-Expo is a testament to the resilience and innovation of our local farmers, food producers and culinary artists,” said Minister Campbell. “This event not only highlights the richness of Bahamian agriculture but also reinforces our commitment to food security and sustainability.”

Project Manager for Agri-Expo, Jacqueline Fox said that the event is designed to engage, educate and inspire.

“We’re bringing together the best minds in agriculture, with hands-on demonstrations and an exciting cooking competition that will showcase the unique flavours of our islands.”
