The Airports of the Americas Conference is being held in The Bahamas for the first time this week at the Baha Mar Resort.
Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper addressed the gathering on Monday. He said, “the conference provides us with an unparalleled opportunity to meet face to face with key industry decision makers.”
The Minister also spoke to The Bahamas’ aim to expand airlift to the islands. “For everyone, the aviation industry, both globally and locally, is undergoing significant changes especially in the post pandemic recovery era. There’s therefore urgent need for destinations and airports to collaborate on coordinated marketing campaigns, infrastructural developments and a renewed commitment to safety and security. And today I’m happy to tell you that LPIA and the airports in The Bahamas are indeed open for collaboration and sister airport agreements,” Cooper said.
Flanked by high level tourism and aviation officials, Cooper spoke with members of the media on the sidelines of the events about the impact of the conference for The Bahamas. He said, “aviation cannot exist in a vacuum by its very nature and therefore its important that we build a local ecosystem as we’ve done, deploy our national strategic plan as we’ve done but also create a regional ecosystem of partners to champion the growth of aviation.”
The conference ends on August 7th.
