The women of Eta Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority on April 21 hosted the organization’s first ‘Women’s Mock Parliament’ session in the House of Assembly.  In attendance at the event were the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis, Minister of Transport and Housing; Senator Erecia Hepburn; RubyAnn Cooper-Darling, women’s suffrage trailblazer and former parliamentarian; and Her Excellency Dai Qingli, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas.

Participants of Eta Psi Omega Chapter were: Alana Major, Angelique McKay, Gabrielle Conliffe, Kay-Andra Gardiner, Krysti Campbell, Patricia Roberts, Samantha Anderson, TanyaAnn Bowe-Green, Tezel Lightbourne, Ianthe Tynes, D’asante Small, Gaynell Rolle, Kim Johnson, Mavis Johnson-Collie, Shavonne Smith, Teorah Ferguson, Wendy Poitier-Albury, Tanya McFall-Major, Jayell Rahming, Tarah McDonald, Melissa Hanna, Andrea Darling-Eve, and Antonique Bannister. The ladies in Parliament discussed a range of topics concerning women’s issues in today’s Bahamian society including: Gender Equality, Education, Gender Based Violence, Healthcare, Education, Law & Government, and Business. 

The mock proceedings initiative was to, as an organization, bring awareness to empower women in society, and cause further positive community impact.
