Announcement Of Grand Lucayan Sale Pending

Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis appeared at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday where he addressed an array of questions from members of the media.

When asked about a sale for the Grand Lucayan Hotel on the island of Grand Bahama, Mr, Davis revealed that negotiations are currently ongoing with a potential buyer.  He said, “we want to make sure that when we sell we indicated we want a world class brand name to be associated with the reopening and I’m encouraged that we will have that and within the next two weeks or so we should be closing an arrangement.”

The Prime Minister also addressed the redevelopment of the Grand Bahama International Airport which he said he moving slower than he expected.  “I think I’m to have a meeting with all the stakeholders and those who have indicated that they wish to participate in that renovation, that meeting should be held either tomorrow or as soon as I’m back from the General Assembly but we are moving assiduously to assure that that is happening.”

On the ongoing dispute between the government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority over the government’s demand for repayment of $357 million for services rendered in Freeport the Prime Minister said, “all I can say at this time is that the process for the resolving of dispute between ourselves has been engaged and is continuing.”
