Association of Caribbean Heads of Corrections and Prison Services Held Election in The Bahamas

On the final day of the Association of Caribbean Heads of Corrections and Prisons Services’ 13th Annual Conference at the British Colonial Hotel, Nassau, Bahamas, an election was held for all executive posts in the ACHCPS.

The ACHCPS comprises twenty-six member countries inclusive of The Bahamas, Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Martin, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands, US Virgin Islands, and UK Virgin Islands.

After the electoral process was completed, the following ACHCPS Members were successful in being elected for the following office thus forming the new Executive Committee. Today’s election results are significant and historic, especially for The Bahamas, as this is the first time since the ACHCPS’ existence for a Bahamian to ascend to the post of president. In 2010, former Superintendent of Prisons, His Excellency Dr. Elliston Rahming, served as the Vice Chairman of the ACHCPS.Commissioner Doan Cleare was nominated and not contested for the Presidency Post.
