The Bahamas Customs and Excise Department celebrated its 109th anniversary by attending a church service over the weekend at the Church of God of Prophecy on East Street and Sunlight Cottage.
Minister of Economic Affairs, Sen. Hon. Michael Halkitis was in attendance at the service. He told congregants, “over the years the Customs Department has remained steadfast and devoted in fulfilling its mandate to collect revenue for the country, some 40% of the nation’s gross income while also protecting our borders from the illicit importation of drugs, firearms and other prohibited items. Since its inception the Bahamas Customs Department has welcomed some of our finest sons and daughters within its ranks.”
Pastor of the Church of God of Prophesy, East Street Tabernacle Bishop Hulan Hanna delivered the sermon.
Also in attendance was the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe, Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander and other representatives of the country’s uniformed branches.
