After an internal review Bahamasair has terminated a pilot who was involved in an argument that occurred while an airplane was on the tarmac in Abaco on Sunday, August 25th.
The decision was announced at a press conference held by Bahamasair officials on Monday. Managing Director Tracey Cooper said, “a formal debriefing was scheduled for the following day, Monday, but prior to the debrief Bahamasair received voice messages determined to be from the Captain in question which were found to be inappropriate and inconsistent with the airlines professional standards. Bahamasair maintains a zero tolerance policy towards any form of intimidation or unprofessional conduct.”
Cooper said the Captain was brought in after the Abaco incident between him and his female co-pilot because of concerns. “He was at that time advised and told what needed to be done, what he needed to do to change his ways and rather than take our advisement to him he responded in the way that he did.”
The Bahamasair Managing Director assured that this case is not a reflection of the airlines pilots. He said, “we would hope that the traveling public would simply look at the record that has been there. Bahamasair has been known for some of the best pilots in the world. These guys know how to fly airplanes and they know how to conduct themselves. Every now and then you would have somebody that’s an outlier.”
Cooper promises that the airplane will continue to strengthen its cockpit protocols.
