Bahamasair flew to Montego Bay, Jamaica for the first time over the weekend. Approximately 138 passengers including government and Bahamasair officials as well as members of the media were a part of the inaugural flight in the airlines new service to that part of the island nation.
A welcome ceremony was held at Sangster International Airport where Chairman of the Tourism Linkages Network and Sandals Resorts , Adam Stewart addressed the gathering. He said, “having this connectivity between these two countries, first and foremost, unlocks the ability between our two economies for locals to do business, to trade, to visit family friends, for school and education which has been one of the main thoroughfares for us over the years.”
The government was represented by Minister of State for Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Basil McIntosh; CARICOM Ambassador, the Hon. Leslia Brice and Minister of Immigration and National Insurance, the Hon. Alfred Sears. Sears said, “this inaugural flight signifies more than just new air connectivity between our two countries, it is a deeper reflection of the strong bond and commonalities between our two sovereign nations and a mutual commitment to be trendsetters within the Caribbean around a diversified tourism, investment and aviation sectors.”
Bahamasair Managing Director, Tracey Cooper also addressed the ceremony. He said, “this here is just Bahamasair trying to do its part. We’re already flyer, I would consider the nexus if you look at Cuba and Providenciales and Haiti and moving on to Jamaica is just the natural next step.”
The Bahamasair flight to Montego Bay will be available on Thursdays and Sundays with hopes of future expansion.
