Bahamasair made its final flight out of Orlando, Florida on Monday as Hurricane Milton approaches the state from the Gulf of Mexico.
Bahamasair Managing Director, Tracy Cooper spoke with ZNS News about the decision. He said, “we recognized from Sunday that the regular flight was full and that persons wanted to come out once they recognized how strong the hurricane was going to be. So we placed an addition jet flight onto that service yesterday afternoon and you know its a good thing that we did. We came out with over a hundred passengers on the airplane. We had passengers both for Nassau, Freeport and beyond into some of the other islands. Presently we have flights into Miami and Fort Lauderdale, we expect that this will continue. We will only interrupt the flights if the weather dictates.”
Hurricane Milton has been deemed a Category 5 storm in the Gulf. Local officials of cities and towns in the direct path of the storm have advised residents to evacuate.
