The Central Bank of The Bahamas is proud to present “Balcony House – Revisited”, an exhibition that re-examines and reactivates the storied past of Balcony House. Since 1985, the Central Bank of The Bahamas has been the owner and steward of Balcony House, preserving its legacy as an important cultural landmark.
Built circa 1790, Balcony House is the oldest surviving wooden residential structure in The Bahamas. This exhibition brings to life the compelling stories of some of its most notable former owners, like Stephen Dillet and Josephine Hartford Bryce, while deepening the public’s understanding of key features that make the museum a national treasure.
In Balcony House – Revisited, historical documents and artifacts are thoughtfully merged with contemporary works from the Bank’s art collection. Through this dialogue between past and present, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on one of Nassau’s most treasured heritage sites.
Visitors—both familiar and new—are invited to explore Balcony House and the adjacent former outdoor kitchen, now transformed into the inviting Teahouse Café.
As part of this year’s programming, the Central Bank is delighted to welcome the 2025 Transforming Spaces Annual Art Bus Tour. The Bank is also pleased to once again host and sponsor lunch for tour patrons, providing a welcome
opportunity to pause and refresh midway through the day.
