The Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs officially opened the Egg Academy at the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) on Monday.
At the opening ceremony, the Hon. Clay Sweeting said, “today is certainly a proud day for The Bahamas as it was just several weeks ago that we had the ground breaking for the Golden Yolk Project and now we’re here at BAMSI with our holistic approach at BAMSI’s Egg Academy Poultry Research and Training Center.”
Sweeting further stated, “this Egg Academy prepares us for the future. We know this is just one of the many programs that BAMSI will continue to develop to enhance food security in our country.”
Also on hand were Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs and Member of Parliament of North Andros and the Berry Islands, the Hon Leonardo Lightbourne and Executive Chairman of BAMSI, Sen. Hon. Tyrel Young.
The program aims to produce more than one million eggs per year with approximately 3,600 birds.
