Staff of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (BCB) and Bahamas Information Services (BIS) joined together Wednesday morning, July 1, to enjoy a jubilant Flag Day ceremony, bubbling with warmth and patriotism.
The theme of the upcoming 53rd Anniversary of Bahamas Independence, July 10, is ‘Celebrating Our Heritage, Shaping Our Tomorrow.’
The milestone is being commemorated throughout the archipelago with Flag Day ceremonies, July 1, as part of Bahamas Independence celebrations — notably The Beat Retreat, National Flag Day, Ecumenical Service and Cultural Show, People’s Rush, and Family Fun Day, through July 10.
Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, with responsibility for the Broadcasting Corporation and Bahamas Information Services, the Hon. McKell Bonaby addressed Flag Day, stating: “It is a privilege to be here with you as we gather for this flag-raising ceremony. I extend warm greetings to each of you and thank you for the opportunity to share in this important moment.
“Each time we raise our Bahamian Flag, we do more than observe a ceremony — we renew our commitment to our nation.
“The black, aquamarine, and gold remind us of the courage of our people, the beauty of our islands, and the promise of our future. They also remind us that nation-building is a shared responsibility.
“Patriotism is not measured only by the words we speak or the celebrations we attend. It is reflected in how we serve one another, how we carry out our daily responsibilities, and how we contribute to making The Bahamas stronger for generations to come.
“Whether we serve in government, the private sector, our communities, or our homes, every act of honesty, excellence, kindness, and integrity strengthens the fabric of our nation.”
State Minister Bonaby continued, even as raindrops fell from an overcast sky: “As we face new opportunities and new challenges, let us remember that our greatest strength has always been our people. When we work together with respect, purpose, and a shared vision, there is no limit to what we can achieve as one Bahamian family.
“This morning, I encourage each of us to recommit ourselves to the ideals that unite us: love of country, service above self, respect for one another, and pride in who we are.
“These values are not reserved for special occasions — they should guide us every day.
“As we raise our National Flag, let us also lift our aspirations for our country. Let us continue to build a Bahamas where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, where our diversity is our strength, and where we leave a legacy of unity, resilience, and hope.
“May God continue to bless each of you, and may God continue to bless our Commonwealth of The Bahamas.”
