Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard and the Minister of Labour and Immigration, the Hon. Keith Bell met and embraced at the viewing of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Gail Saunders at Bethel Brothers Morticians on Thursday.

Minister Bell has been under intense scrutiny after it was revealed that he ordered the release of Chinese nationals working illegally on the renovation project at the British Colonial Hilton after immigration officers had detained them.

Bell spoke to reporters saying, “the only thing I will say in respect to the matters of immigration is that a series of questions have been asked of me in the House of Assembly and it is on Wednesday, which is the question time, that I will appropriately answer all questions thoroughly, substantively and put this thing to rest once and for all.”

Michael Pintard also spoke to the press on the issue. He said, “we’ll write the Minister, we’ll call the Minister and we’ll put that on the record. But I’m saying to you and to the public the Minister and the government should have a two way discussion in the parliament of The Bahamas on this subject. And yes, we have no difficulty reaching out to the Minister so that that can happen. And so I intend to write the Prime Minister we will CC (carbon copy) the Minister asking the questions that we have already put on the public record.”

Minister Bell also received criticism about the conferring of Bahamian citizenship on the wife and children of Franck Racine at his funeral services. The incident was recorded and circulated on social media.
