Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville recently visited the island of Grand Bahama where he announced when the bidding process for the construction of a new hospital will begin.
While speaking with staff of the Rand Memorial Hospital the Minister said, “the Grand Bahama Health Services, a journey characterized by resilience, determination and hard work, blessed by the Lord and filled with much hope.”
The Minister said the bidding process for the construction of the multi-story complex, phase two of the complex will go out to tender in a few months. Darville said, “this multi-story complex will house hospital beds, theatres, intensive care unit and other essential hospital services.”
He added, “we also have started MOUs with ports throughout the Freeport area and relationship with the new Celebration Key where we will be able to provide health care services for visitors who find themselves in medical challenges.”
According to Minister Darville the goal is to ensure that everyone receive the care that they need when they need it. He said, “our commitment to universal access to quality health care services by way of national health insurance remain resolute and financial resources, training, infrastructural upgrades, public education and with the help of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ we will overcome and we will continue to support the residents here in Grand Bahama.”
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Grand Bahama health complex was held in May 2023.
