Biometric Voter’s Card Update

Biometric Voter’s Card Update

Bahamian Media News:

Legislation recently passed in the House of Assembly paving the way for biometric voter’s card to be introduced in the country. Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was asked about the subject over the weekend.

He said, “for quite a while its always been a specter of challenges over the true results of the election, not the true results of the election but the opportunities for impersonation, fraud and the like in our electoral system using manual writings on a paper card. And that has been observed and seen by almost all of our international observers missions here is how do we eliminate these possibilities and that is what this biometric card system will eliminate.”

When issued the card will be valid for ten years. Mr. Davis said, “if you go more than once to be registered, alarm goes off and you will not be registered. You’ll only be registered once. It also cleans up the registered and as I indicated only Bahamian citizens will be able to register to vote. And they’ll only be able to register one time.”
