Blood Bag Shortage Resolved

Bahamian Media News:

It was recently reported and confirmed by the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) that the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Blood Bank was out of blood bags.  PHA officials said the shortage was due to supply chain issues.

Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville revealed to reporters last week that the problem has been resolved.  He said, “we realized that it was a global shortage brought on by the war in Gaza and Ukraine.  A lot of the assets by the multilaterals that produce a lot of medical supplies would shift in those areas.  It created a shortage in the region.  We were able to tag along with our partners from the Red Cross.  But I’m please to report that our supplier has now delivered a large supply so that’s something behind us.”

According to the PHA the shortage did not impact patients needing blood.
