BPL Smart Meters Launch

BPL Smart Meters Launch

Bahamian Media News:

Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Chief Operating Officer, Anthony Christie appeared at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister last week where he was asked about the launch of smart meters.

The program is set to launch in Eleuthera next quarter. Christie told reporters, “Eleuthera has had its challenges over the last few years and we’re working to improve the generation and transmission on the island. But Eleuthera is such a mixed customer base from Harbour Island in the north to the mainland where we see a lot of varying load and especially the length of the island. So Harbour Island being a dense population with a lot of high commercial customers, residential, it allows us to get a lot of data that we would need to fine tone, again, what we want to get overall. Also, mainland has a lot of varying loads and again the expanse of the island, 110 miles, means it allow us to see really the resiliency and how we can improve the service we provide through these meters.”
