At a press conference held at the Emergency Operations Center of the Disaster Risk Management Authority (DRM) government officials encouraged residents in the northern Bahamas to prepare for the effects of Hurricane Milton.
Tropical storm conditions were expected in the northern Bahamas as Hurricane Milton made it way passed the islands in the northern Bahamas. Chief Meteorologist, Geoffrey Greene said, “for the northwest we expect 3 to 5 inches of rainfall with isolate maximums around eight inches. For the central, we expect 1 to 2 inches with isolated maximums of about four inches of rainfall.”
Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs, the Hon. Clay Sweeting addressed concerns about possible extensive flooding due to heavy rainfall. He said, “you’ll see that the water is receding much quicker than times before with the significant drainage cleaning throughout the islands. If you notice, downtown, you notice that the water escapes much quicker than times before.”
DRM Managing Director, Aarone Sargeant was also on hand and gave an update on the Authority’s readiness. “The Central Abaco Pines school has been activated as a shelter which will allow for those residents to relocate there temporarily as the effects of Hurricane Milton pass.”
Meteorologist expect the all clear by Friday of this week.
