Nassau, Bahamas – November 11th, 2024 BTC recently organized a Health & Safety Expo for its employees in New Providence and Grand Bahama, demonstrating the company’s commitment to workplace health and safety.
The timely event, spearheaded by BTC’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team aimed to educate colleagues on potential risks and safety measures in their work environment, and to drive home the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles.
The expo featured a diverse array of experts who emphasized the importance of healthy lifestyles and workplace safety. K. Darron Turnquest, BTC’s Director of People, highlighted the event’s significance in raising awareness about on the job risks and proper handling procedures. Daryll Lewis, Health and Safety Manager for Liberty Latin America (LLA) stressed that the expo reinforced BTC’s health and safety standards and practices.
Turnquest said, “This Expo brings about a greater awareness of the risks that our employees may face on the job and how to manage them. This was an opportunity to educate them on the importance of placing health and safety at the forefront of their workday. As we go through our daily lives, we tend to overlook things that can significantly impact our livelihood, so we believe events like these are important.”
Employee feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Hendrea Pinder, a Senior Associate, praised the expo for its insightful content and team building aspect. Najah Finalyson, BTC’s Manager of Directory Publications commended the company’s evident care for employee wellbeing.

It is really an extensive showing of how much BTC cares for its employees and how much they want the employees in the company to be well. To bring this here is a testament to how much they care about us, and that is amazing.”
The Health & Safety Expo in New Providence featured experts from Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Road Traffic Department, The Bahamas Red Cross, the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and Doctors Hospital. Representatives from these organizations gave lively and engaging presentations to BTC team members that focused on fire prevention, safe driving techniques, hurricane preparedness, wellness checks, and breast cancer awareness. BTC’s team in Grand Bahama received valuable advice about breast cancer awareness, mental health strategies, nutrition, the importance of regular exercise and fire safety protocols.
