Nassau, The Bahamas, September 10, 2024: Following months of negotiations and discussions, BTC and its union partner The Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union (BCPMU) made it official, inking a new industrial agreement between both parties.
This agreement comes two months following the contract signing of a new industrial agreement with The Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union. Present for the announcement and contract signing was BTC CEO, Sameer Bhatti, Director of Labour, Howard Thompson, and President of the Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union, Kendrick Knowles.
BTC CEO, Sameer Bhatti called the occasion another big step in the company’s commitment to labour relations. Bhatti said, “I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish this year. Signing two four-year collective bargaining agreements in two months is an extraordinary feat. I am grateful for our partners, the BCPMU, the Department of Labour, Cable & Wireless Communications, and our dynamic People team here at BTC. This is indeed another significant milestone and another blue letter day for us.”
The agreement includes salary increases of 3%, 4%, and 3% for all colleagues within the current salary bands.
Bhatti said he is optimistic about the company’s future, noting marked improvements and advancements. “Last week we launched JUMP, and with the support of our team 5,000 families that need additional help will receive subsidized internet services along with a laptop and digital skills training. I am also happy to report that our board has given the green light to roll out a major initiative to improve service to our Family Islands. In a few days we will introduce major upgrades to improve our customer experience.”
Kendrick Knowles, President of the BCPMU, thanked BTC for its partnership. He commented, “This is a good day for labour relations. I am happy that we have agreed terms and struck a deal with BTC for our members. I look forward to working alongside the company to ensure that we are exceeding the expectations of our customers.”
All full-time managerial colleagues are represented by the BCPMU. The contract signing was held at the British Colonial Hotel on September 10.
