The Bahamas Utility Services and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) and the Water & Sewerage Corporation have signed a new industrial agreement.

Minister of Public Works, the Hon. Alfred Sears was present at the signing event. He said, “the last Water & Sewerage Corporation and BUSAWU industrial agreement expired on the 30th of June, 2018. However, despite this long wait the employees responded in fine form to the challenges, as I indicated, during Hurricane Dorian and also during the global pandemic.”

Union President Dwayne Wood was also on hand and told reporters, “one thing we would have given up right away was that based on our insurance premium that the corporation would pay for our employees, new employees coming in as of February 2023 would have to contribute to 30% of their insurance premium. I made it clear to the membership, I cautioned them, and said to them to whom much is given much is required. That simply means fasten your seat belts let’s get to work cause the money has now been paid. It is finished the battle is over. You’ve collected now let’s reciprocate what we’ve collected in terms of productivity.”

The $3 million agreement includes benefits such as four increments over a three year period, increased travel allowances and increased Christmas bonuses.
