Bahamian Media News:

Andy the Adventurous Sea Turtle is making a splash among young readers across The Bahamas! This delightful children’s book, written by Bahamian author Tameka Jones, takes kids on an exciting journey through the Bahama Islands — all through the eyes of a curious sea turtle named Andy.

As Andy explores the islands from the northern cays to the southern shores, he helps children appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the entire Bahamian archipelago while learning about the importance of protecting marine life. His adventures highlight how the ocean’s delicate ecosystems are deeply connected to everyday life, reminding readers that the sea is not only a place for recreation and enjoyment, but also a vital home to a vast world of wildlife.

Beyond its captivating story, Andy the Adventurous Sea Turtle – Exploring The Bahama Islands encourages environmental awareness and national pride. Through Andy’s discoveries, children gain a greater appreciation for the natural treasures that make The Bahamas unique.

Recently, copies of Andy the Adventurous Sea Turtle – Exploring The Bahama Islands, written by Bahamian author Tameka Jones, were sponsored by Capital Union Bank and presented to Principal Rochelle Coakley on behalf of the students of Adelaide Primary School. During the school’s Literacy Day Assembly, the donation was accompanied by an interactive activity board designed to complement Andy’s journey. The board helps students identify the islands of The Bahamas and locate their positions — turning geography into an engaging, hands-on experience.

The assembly underscored the importance of fostering a strong reading culture among young learners. As part of the celebration, Capital Union Bank donated more than 25 copies of the children’s book to the school, reinforcing its commitment to literacy and education. Representatives from the Old Fort Bay Rotary Club were also present at the event, lending their support to the literacy initiative and encouraging students to embrace reading as a lifelong skill.

Principal Coakley expressed appreciation to all partners and participants, noting that the initiative provided both resources and inspiration for students, and that such collaborative efforts strengthen Adelaide Primary’s commitment to literacy in a modern, digital era.

With Andy leading the way, children are diving into a world of discovery, learning, and love for their Bahamian environment — one adventure at a time.
