China Donates Agricultural Equipment

The government of China has donated heavy equipment, including two tractors and tillers, to the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources to be used at the Gladstone Road Agricultural Center.

Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell was on hand to accept the gifts. He said, “these tractors will greatly assist our land cultivating processes, increase productivity and improve efficiency in our farming practices in both New Providence and Grand Bahama. With access to this state of the art machinery our farmers will be able to enhance their output, reduce manual labour and ultimately boost their livelihood.”

The Minister also highlighted the technical assistance being provided by the Chinese in growing crops at the Agricultural Center. “The technical assistance that has been offered by the Chinese here at the Gladstone Road Agricultural Center has showcased cutting edged techniques and I am sure that this program will continue to yield positive results. This invaluable support will assist in empowering us to overcome challenges, seize opportunity and achieve new heights of success in our agricultural endeavours.”

China Governor General, Mao Weiming was at the handover ceremony and exchanged gifts with Minister Campbell.

The equipment donated is valued at approximately $50,000.
