CIBC Caribbean Celebrates Teachers with Loan Relief, Staycations and Classroom Support

Bahamian Media News:

CIBC Caribbean recently surprised three Bahamian educators with a special package of rewards designed to give back to them and their students.

In recognition of the dedication teachers bring to classrooms and communities every day,
Brenda Watkins, Omar Sharpe, and Vashte Nairn were celebrated ahead of World Teachers’
Day, observed annually on October 5.

Each educator received one month of their loan payment covered by CIBC Caribbean, $1,000
toward a staycation, and $500 to invest in their classroom. The combination was intentionally
crafted to provide the teachers with something to ease a personal financial responsibility,
something to enjoy for themselves, and something they could take back to their students.
Terrance Gibson, CIBC Caribbean’s Head of Country, said the initiative was an opportunity to
turn appreciation into something tangible.

“Teachers spend so much of their lives pouring into others. They teach, encourage, correct,
listen and, very often, give of their own resources to make sure their students have what they
need,” Gibson said.

“We wanted to do more than simply say thank you. We wanted these three educators to feel
appreciated personally, while also giving them something they could use to continue making a
difference in their classrooms. Their impact reaches far beyond the students sitting in front of
them today.”

During the presentation, CIBC Caribbean thanked the educators for their “dedication, patience,
and commitment to education” and acknowledged the important role teachers play in shaping
lives, inspiring students, and strengthening communities.
