Royal Bahamas Police Force Firefighters worked to contain a bush fire on Coral Harbour Road in New Providence on Monday afternoon.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings was on scene where she briefed reporters. She said, “it was around one o’clock today when we were notified of the fire here on Coral Harbour Road. At this time the fire is on the eastern and western sides of Coral Harbour Road just south of Odyssey Airport. We do have three fire appliances on scene, three engines on scene and we have a cadre of men and women who are actually working arduously at this time to bring the fire under control.”
Skippings asked residents in the area that use Coral Harbour Road to get to and from their homes to use alternative routes.
The Chief Superintendent also encouraged residents to exercise health precautions. “If you see that it is affected you I want you to find a family member who lives somewhere within New Providence who you can go to and actually spend the night so that no one experience any health issues as a result of the fire here.”
“Now this fire here, I’m told that usually we have these types of incidents occur about every three to four years. And so once this burns out this time hopefully we shouldn’t see something of this sort for another three to four years,” Skippings said.
