The general public is advised that the Governor General, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition, has appointed Mr. Justice Vasheist Kokaram to the Court of Appeal of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with effect from 3rd March, 2026.
The general public is further advised that the Governor General, acting on the advice of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, has appointed Mr. Justice Roberto Reckley to act as a Justice of the Supreme Court and Ms. Ancella Evans to act as the Chief Magistrate, both with effect from 1st March, 2026.
Justice Kokaram was admitted to the Bar of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 1994. He served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal in Trinidad and Tobago from 2020 until 2026. Prior to serving on the Court of Appeal of Trinidad and Tobago, Justice Kokaram served as a Justice of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago from 2009 until 2020.
Justice Reckley was admitted to the Bahamas Bar in 2009. He was appointed to act as Chief Magistrate in 2023, and his appointment was confirmed in 2024. Chief Magistrate Evans was admitted to the Bahamas Bar in 2002 and was appointed as a Magistrate in 2008. She was promoted to Assistant Chief
Magistrate in July 2023.
All of the appointments will undoubtedly strengthen the administration of justice in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
