CR Walker Bust Unveiling

Bahamian Media News:

A bust of the late Parliamentarian and Educator Claudius Roland Walker was unveiled at the school the bears his name on Tuesday.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Walker’s granddaughter who praised the graduating class of 2023 for bust. Dr. Branetta Walker said, “I cannot recall what I gave as a graduate of my high school. I think the gift was leaving because my class was a little mischievous. So I do think its a very profound that the graduating class chose this to be their gift.”

Also on hand was the Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin who spoke to C. R. Walker’s achievements. She said, “he built a hotel, he was a social activist and the hotel provided a space where black patrons could go because they couldn’t go elsewhere. He created access in that way. It helps you to understand that where we are it took sacrifice, it took courage, it took vision to help take the people forward. And there are others in our history, there are others but C. R. Walker looms large.”

Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and area Member of Parliament, the Hon. Wayde Watson did the honours of unveiling the bust which is positioned in the school’s courtyard.
