Police are providing an update on investigations into a house fire that occurred in Crown Haven, Abaco on August 25th. The blaze resulted in the death of 12 year old, Montana Ferguson.
According to police the cause of the fire was likely an electrical malfunction. It has been reported that at the time of the fire the mother of the survivors of the blaze was not at home.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Superintendent Stephen Rolle spoke reporters Tuesday on whether the woman will face charges. He said, “at this point I don’t want to say yeah or no, that is part of the investigation. And no, foul play is not suspected. Once they complete the investigation if the parent is found to be at fault for any negligent act then I’m sure she’ll be dealt with accordingly.”
Fire officials are calling on families to equip their homes with fire safety tools. “When it comes to fire at homes the first thing is life. Let’s try to preserve life…of course the home can be replaced. Once your life is gone that’s it. Most persons do not keep fire extinguishers in their residence or even smoke detectors. Your advised to invest in smoke detectors, fire extinguishers so in the event that this happens throughout the night before the fire truck arrives you could at least start the process and eliminate some of the damages that you may incur.
Investigations into the house fire continues.
