Local Pastor and National Security Consultant, Dr. Carlos Reid is commenting on the gang culture in the country in the wake of the murder of a 16 year old girl over the weekend.
Reid said, “even in our prison, the gangs really control our prison. When I say that, a person when they go to prison now they are asked who you ridin’ with, what’s your gang affiliation. They do that because they want to put you in someplace that could be detrimental to you.”
The Hope Center Pastor believes that most of the violence in the capital is due to gangs and hopes that instead of being disbanded they can be used for positive activity. “Our goal now is to take some of these gangs and turn them around where they’re doing positive things not to be able to dismember the gangs but to be able to challenge their intellectual capacity where they could see that maybe in some of these gangs there are businesses, there are companies that are in these gangs. How do we empower these persons to empower their communities?”
Reid is of the opinion that conflict resolution and anger management should be a part of the curriculum in schools.
