Her Excellency Jerusa Ali, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, concluded a high- level diplomatic visit to Port-au-Prince from 28 th August to 10th September 2026. The visit, which coincided with the CARICOM Eminent Persons Group (EPG) mission, advanced The Bahamas’ commitment to regional security, institutional strengthening and bilateral co-operation with Haiti.
The delegation engaged Haiti’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security on transnational crime and repatriation matters, and met with the Deputy Force Commander of international security operations, as well as officers of the Haitian military and the Haitian National Police. Discussions with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and representatives of Mongolia, Jamaica
and Chad underscored The Bahamas‘ commitment to supporting international efforts to strengthen Haiti’s security infrastructure.
Further diplomatic outreach included representatives of Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain and the Dominican Republic. These engagements addressed regional security, development financing and international co-ordination to better help Haitians address on-the-ground challenges.
Director-General Ali advanced co-operation with Haiti’s National Archives on the digitization and modernization of civil records. Haiti has developed a new civil registry system and successfully digitized historical documentation spanning as far back as 1793. The delegation also met with officials overseeing civil aviation operations, following meetings with Haiti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in preparation for formal diplomatic consultations slated for later this year.
The visit was the backdrop for The Bahamas’ latest push for coordinated action ahead of mandate renewal for the United Nations Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793. As a key member of the GSF Standing Group of Partners (SGP), The Bahamas remains committed to its role in advancing peace and stability in the Caribbean and strengthening bilateral relations with its neighbours.
