Disabled Persons Organization Installs2026–2028 Executive Board, Renews Callfor Accessible Transportation

Bahamian Media News:

The Disabled Persons Organization (DPO) formally installed its newly elected Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term during a special church service held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Alpha and Omega
Pentecostal Faith Church, led by Pastor Dr. William Pennerman. In his presidential address, newly installed President Antoine Munroe called on the incoming board to lead with humility, transparency, compassion and boldness. He also renewed the Organization’s appeal for accessible transportation and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

“Not an Ordinary Sunday”

Addressing the clergy, outgoing and incoming executive members, DPO members, families and well-wishers, Munroe described the installation as more than an administrative changeover.

“Leadership, for us, is not merely an appointment—it is a calling,” he said. Munroe noted that the service was held before the altar so that every incoming board member could be commissioned to serve with integrity, compassion and courage.

Drawing on the biblical image of one body with many members, each indispensable to the whole, he reaffirmed the founding spirit of the Organization: no member is lesser, no one should be left behind and every voice matters. Outgoing Board Recognised

Munroe thanked the outgoing Executive Board for its service, crediting its members with advancing accessibility, defending the dignity of persons with disabilities, strengthening fellowship within the Organization and sustaining hope despite systemic barriers.

“Your labour was not in vain, and it is not forgotten,” he said. A Charge to the Incoming Board Turning to the newly installed leadership, Munroe issued a five-point charge for the new term. He urged members to serve with humility, recognising leadership as service rather than privilege; advocate boldly for accessibility, inclusion and disability rights; remain united; operate with transparency and accountability; and lead with compassion.

He reminded the board that behind every membership card is an individual with a personal story, unique experiences and struggles that must never be overlooked. Accessible Transportation Remains a Priority
Munroe placed particular emphasis on securing equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in education, employment, healthcare and civic life. He identified accessible transportation as one of the most significant unresolved barriers facing the disability community.

“Without the ability to move freely and with dignity, every other door of opportunity remains difficult to reach,” he said. Munroe charged the new board with keeping accessible transportation before policymakers, institutions and the wider public until meaningful change is achieved.

Call for Unity and Support
Munroe closed by encouraging DPO members to support and pray for the incoming board while holding its members accountable throughout their term. “A board is only as strong as the members who hold it up,” he said.

He expressed hope that the 2026–2028 term would be remembered as a seasonm of growth, unity and breakthrough for the Disabled Persons Organization and the wider disability community.
