Bahamian Media News:

The Global Relations Consultant in the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation gave an update on the demolition of derelict buildings in the downtown area on Friday.

Senator Randy Rolle spoke to the issue while contributing to debate in the senate.  He said, “we have started the project a few months ago with some of the buildings and we will continue the Bay Street transformation. This is just the first step.  We are working with the owners of downtown businesses to get this done.  They have been very helpful and accommodating and they see the value and importance of this growth and development for the entire country at large.”

Rolle also foreshadowed the creation of a new attraction at the rear of Rawson Square. “This attraction be an impressive experience that will give guests a glimpse into the milestones of our beautiful country.  We are working with a historian and a local artisan who will be pulling this vision together,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper first announced that demolition orders had been issued for nine buildings east of East Street in February of this year.
