Police are voicing concern about the use of courier services for the trafficking of drugs and other illegal items.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Roberto Goodman spoke with reporters on Thursday. He said, “those persons who think that they can go out there and be selling drugs to our wonderful boys and girls in our society. You know the persons who live off these profits, who benefit from it, we’re coming after you. We’re gonna take whatever assets you have, we’re coming after you.”
Goodman further stated that police have some gathered information on some of the courier companies. “As long as we have the information we send our intelligence persons in and then we’re able to do somethings covertly and be able to make some arrests.”
The Senior Assistant Commissioner said that drugs is not the only concern as weapons and ammunition have also been found. This trafficking of illegal good is apparently aided by employees of these courier companies. Goodman said, “as long as we have the intelligence and then we go after the person, we target them and we’re able, like I say, to bring them before the courts and charge them before the courts.”
Last year the Consumer Protection Commission sounded the alarm on courier services saying there had been more than 300 complaints.
