Ed Bethel ZNS Memorial

Bahamian Media News:

A memorial service was held at the Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas (BCB) to honour the memory of the late veteran broadcaster Eldred ‘Ed’ Bethel who passed away at 82.

BCB Executive Chairman Picewell Forbes spoke at the event. He said, “the prince has gone home. A broadcaster extraordinaire, a nationalist, a stickler for detail and preparation that was Ed Bethel.”

“Ed straddled worlds in broadcasting. Ed, yes was the face of the network, the voice of the network, the person that would cover the Prime Minister, the guy, the top of the top. But Ed never restricted himself to moving in that circle,” said BCB Acting General Manager Andrew Burrows.

Also delivering remarks was the Minister of State with responsibility for the BCB, the Hon. Myles Laroda. He told attendees, “if any of us were told at birth that we’d live until eighty two we’d all take it right then. But even then we still feel that we were robbed of some more years of Ed.”

Among the others in attendance at the service were past and present BCB employees, wife of the deceased, Mrs. Dawn Bethel and other members of Ed Bethel’s family.
