Eleuthera Power Generation Update

Bahamian Media News:

Minister of Transport and Energy, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis recently gave an update on efforts to rectify the power generation issues on the island of Eleuthera.  Residents have been experiencing frequent and sometimes lengthy power outages for some time.

Coleby-Davis expects the power supply on Eleuthera to improve by the end of the month.  In an exclusive interview with ZNS News the Minister said, “we’ve seen some oil tanks and other equipment coming into Harbour Island to assist with bringing them online and we should be testing one of the engines, which is 2.2 megawatts by the weekend.  So that’s going to quite exciting for us to get the testing and see that its working and functioning properly cause it’s been sitting for a while and once that’s done we can work it onto the system and have that generating power.”

She added, “we have one gen set that came in.  We have two others that are actually in Rock Sound at the plant but we needed some equipment so that we could bring them back online and that would bring some more power generation.”

Habour Island residents staged a protest against the frequent power outages and other unreliable utility services on August 12th.  On the same day Minister Coleby-Davis announced that Bahamas Power and Light customers on the island could expect a 50% rebate on their August bills.
